She discovers the isolated valley is home to gifted species—including animal and plant shifters—who hide their lives from the rest of England. The blue threads only she sees on their clockwork machinery prove her heritage is rooted with theirs, but their world is so different that Annmar doesn't know if she'll ever belong.

Shapeshifter Daeryn Darkcoat blames himself for the death of his mate and swears he won't be responsible for another pack. But when the farm he loves falls victim to an endless run of strange pests eating the crops, he joins the hunt, taking charge of an unruly team of predator shifters. In the midst of the battle, Annmar stirs feelings he can’t resist.

The Hardest Love

Meet Sam’s beloved million dollar, bullet proof car with tires that cannot be flattened.

Not even the President has a better car.
Before Trent jumped off the Brooklyn Bridge, he put his million dollar car into Sam’s name. He knew his half-brother loved the car. Sam drove off to Iowa with the car unaware it was actually his. He just went on the premise that “He who possesses the keys, possesses the car.”
Carrie would have died early in book one (Worst Week Ever) if not for this tank of a car.
When the mayor of Denton Iowa hired Sam to be the sheriff after Sam took down the town bully (who happened to be the Mayor’s son), Sam went shopping for police lights.
He decided upon the full size of the Force II Tier Series police lights.
So Trent arrives in Denton, Iowa, with a new face and the new name of Trevor Campbell. (Yes, he followed his half-brother to Denton). Within minutes in the city, he gets pulled over by yet another cop. (The last one pulled him over for driving too slow, but still within the legal limit, which Trent/Trevor found very annoying.) This time it’s Sam who has stopped him. He’s so happy to see Sam that he doesn’t argue about the ticket. Then instead of ticketing him for speeding, Sam advises him to get lodging at his girlfriend’s bar. And thus began the makings of a strong friendship that grows throughout book four.
While girlfriends have come and gone, Sam’s fabulous car remains his. It will save another life during this book as well.

The Hardest Love
A Long Road to Love Series
By Liza O’Connor
BLURB

THE HARDEST LOVE IS TO LOVE YOURSELF.
Sam has a new theory as to why his relationships with women never work. The problem is he’s constantly falling in love with women that he rescues from serious situations. He reasonably believes saving one from great harm should result not only in good sex afterwards, but never ending gratitude.
But it hasn’t been working out that way.
Sam’s conclusion: damsels in distress are incredibly ungrateful. So he decides the next woman he gets involved with will not require rescue. She will be strong and self-reliant.
Only problem: he’s never met a woman like that.
They do exist Sam. They really do. And just maybe, she’ll just rescue you instead.
EXCERPT

Having been officially kicked out of the sauna, Sam went to check up on Carrie. When buzzed into the conference room, he found not only Pint-Size, but Aggie, and Destiny all gathered about a laptop.
“Are we plotting the control of the world?” he asked and walked around the table to see what they were doing, only Aggie rushed to him. “You can’t see it.”
“See what?”
Destiny closed her pc and answered, “Naked men.”
He stared at Aggie. “You’re looking at porn?”
She shrugged. “Girls get to have fun too.”
Just then Dan entered.
“Dan are you aware your wife and daughter are checking out porn sites on the Internet?” Sam asked.
Dan glanced at Carrie than his daughter, then shook his head. “Why do you care?”
“I don’t, but you damn well should!”
Aggie gripped Sam’s arm and escorted him to the door. “I promise not to watch anymore porn. Now stop picking fights and be nice.”
He loved her easy going manner. He’d been that way long ago, and frankly life had been a lot more fun back then. Being angry all the time was hard work, and no one appreciated it in the least.

Definitions

This week, I've been preparing for the launch of the second installment in the Amethyst Chronicles. I've been speaking with blogs and doing interviews to lead up to Friday's release. A part of me has been stunned by a few of the questions, leading to believe there has been a lot of misconceptions about this series.

Now there are a lot of different subgenres in regards to sci-fi. In fact, Amethyst Chronicles has been referred as three different ones (by three different people of course) but they couldn't be farther from the truth.

dystopia

noun
1. a society characterized by human misery, as squalor, oppression, disease, and overcrowding.

Examples would be Brave New World by Aldous Huxley, Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, or 1984 by George Orwell to name a few.

Amethyst Chronicles doesn't fit this list.

apocalyptic

adjective

1. of or like an apocalypse; affording a revelation or prophecy.
2. pertaining to the Apocalypse or biblical book of Revelation.

Planet of the Apes or I am Legend are examples.

Amethyst Chronicles doesn't make this list either.

Or how about...

space opera
noun
1. a science fiction drama, such as a film or television program, esp one dealing with interplanetary flight

Star Wars. Star Trek. Xarrok. Those books come to my mind when I think of the term space opera.

Not Amethyst Chronicles.

That brings to the question then: What is Amethyst Chronicles? Simple. It's a futuristic sci-fi romance novella series. Utopian. It takes place one thousand years after the end of the Mirror series. Granted, the first does deal with a scientist using a weather machine to freeze certain parts of the world, there's been no apocalypse, it mostly takes place on Earth, and the society on a whole is pretty happy.

"We have blasters instead of guns. Holoscreens instead of TVs. Transporters instead of cars. The world's military has been unified into one. Instead of warring countries, we have a global council. There aren't any homeless in the streets. Poverty has been abolished. Diseases and illness are contained. It's a big deal if someone breaks a law. We all work together toward a common goal and that's to make our planet the best it possibly can be. That's the world I'm from."

That was a little taste from Amethyst Chronicles: Past's Mirror which I am currently working on. Doesn't sound like a bad place to live, right? Too bad we would have to wait until 3018 to see it. I, for one, sure wish it would be sooner.

Oh, by the way, Amethyst Chronicles: Winter's Kiss is now on sale! Get your copy for $.99 on Amazon.

Dissecting characters (part three)

Since I took a look at casting the Amethyst Chronicles into movies, I thought I would take a shot at the Mirror series.

Olivia Wilde as Maddie and Mack

I always said I thought if a movie would be cast, Jennifer Lawrence would be in the starring role. The more I thought about it, the more wrong that statement felt.

Mack and Maddie are beautiful, brilliant, and strong-willed. I'm not saying Jennifer isn't or couldn't play that role, but she's really young. The more I thought about who they are, the more I thought about Amanda Tapping. I just loved Samantha Carter from Stargate. When Sam took over as Commander on Atlantis, I was thrilled. The more I thought about it, the more sense it made. She could easily play that fine line, the other side of the coin. Maddie is sweet and gentle, wearing her heart on her sleeve. Mack is more guarded and forceful. Both are borderline genius. Plus they can hang with the guys.

But Amanda may have an issue similar to Jennifer Lawrence. I doubt she could be believable as the 30-year-old character. I was researching who might be a good fit for Elizabeth when I came across Olivia Wilde. I think it would work.

Alex Pettyfyer as John Brooks

Whenever I thought of John, a professional wrestler by the name of Jon Moxley (Now known as Dean Ambrose in the WWE) came to mind. But then I came across Alex and knew he would be perfect for John.

John is the resident bad boy of the ISC, at least until he saw Maddie. Many thought he was mentally unstable. They weren't far off. He has loads of charm and skills well-suited for the ISC.

Not bad. Not bad at all.

Brandon "Bug" Hall as Jackson Gray

I actually stumbled across Brandon on a bored day. I was clicking through Entertainment Weekly articles and came across "15 TV and Movie Nerds Who Grew Up to be Hot" and he was the first on the list. Can you believe he was Alfalfa from The Little Rascals?

Jackson is second-in-command and Mack's husband. He has an Air Force background which you'll see when his short story comes out later this year.

Stephen Amell as Seth and Logan Brooks

Several of my friends have told me how much they love the ISC's favorite twins. I have to agree. Two men so different yet similar walk a thin line within the ISC. Logan is strong and ready to fight at an given notice. Must have been his years in the Middle East. Seth loves to fly and usually is ready with a joke. Both men love a seemingly out of reach woman (but more on that in Amethyst Chronicles: Past Reflections. Oops. Did I let the cat out of the bag? Oh well.

Michael Caine as Charlie Westlake

I love Michael Caine. When casting Charlie, the ISC's commanding officer and father figure for most of its people, my first and only thought went to him. He is strong yet comforting. Can hold his own among the highly skilled and forceful people under his command. He has everyone's respect. No more perfect Charlie than him, in my humble opinion.

Sienna Miller as Elizabeth Levette

This I didn't see until Karyn Pearson pointed her out from G.I. Joe. Makes sense to me. Elizabeth was actually the hardest one to cast. Needed someone who could be cool under pressure, tough, yet not have the audience hate her. Elizabeth wears a chip on her shoulder regarding John, Seth, and Logan proudly. Even though she admits it wasn't their fault, she still held her brothers accountable when they got separated as children. Authoritative but not a complete bitch. Yeah, that's Elizabeth.

How does my cast match up with you? Did I miss the mark or overlook someone? Sound off in the comments! Maybe I'll get to work on a screen play. Who knows? I need another project to undertake.

First book in this series is $.99! Amazon also in paperback

Dissecting characters (part two)

Some time ago, I posted a blog casting the characters in the Amethyst Chronicles in a movie. You can see the post here. Now I've been hard at work on the second installment, I took a look at my list again. Now I'm wanting to dive a little further and change a few things.

Scarlett Johansson as Ember Wilson

I still stand by my original choice for Ember. In the midst of the controversy surrounding the Black Widow character, I still love that character and the actress, and I still think she would be perfect to play Ember. I think Scarlett could walk the line Ember seems to dance on between woman and solider. She's attractive but still approachable. She's strong without having to beat you over the head with her abilities, although she could. Happily. She's believable as a skilled, no nonsense fighter and can still hang with the boys.
I really like the woman we chose as the cover model for Croceus Poison. My publisher plans on going back to re-do the cover for Winter's Kiss with her. Expect to see her grace the other covers as well.

Chris Pine as Michael Lewis

Yet another one I feel like I got right on the first try. Chris would be the perfect counterpart to our fearless leader. The right balance between friend, solider, and sometimes lover. Although it would be a shame to change those gorgeous blue eyes, I think purple would suit him just fine.

Robbie Amell as Liam Ross

I had changed my mind shortly after my last blog post over who would play Liam. I knew who Liam was, but not the actor who if I was casting the films right now, would play him. And the I watched an episode of The Flash and met Robbie Amell and I knew if I could, he would play Liam.

Liam is strong, proud man and a little self-righteous. He's smart, bold, and sexy. Knows what he wants and fights to get it. He's not aggressive in nature, but has a natural ability to fight. He's more than able to deal with the tough as nails Ember. In fact, he's capable and eager for the job.

Misha Collins as Bryan Morris

Morris is the best tech guy the ISC had ever seen. Smart, quick on his feet, and crafty. May not always make the best decisions, but knows how to follow orders. He has a good sense of humor and is more than capable in a firefight.

I really love Morris and Nova's bromance. This was a hard choice to recast, as I love Stephen Amell, but I had another roll in mind for him.

Damian Lewis as Alexander Nova

Nova is definitely one of my favorite characters. I saw Damian on the TV show Homeland and he just has a way about him. I think he could pull off the funny, easy-going pilot.

I love my cast. I'm ready to start working on the script.

How about you? Would you like to see this movie made?
