30 Days of Summer: Pippa Jay

BOOK SYNOPSIS

Title: Terms & Conditions Apply Series: Venus Ascendant #1 Author: Pippa Jay Word/Page count: 37 pages

BOOK SYNOPSIS

“Welcome to Venus Ascendant, a Public Grade space station in the Andromedan Sector. With our open-to-all policy, any being in the universe can find their perfect R & R, romantic getaway or dangerous liaison at our purpose built resort. The on-board empathic AI Ganesa ensures that anyone coming to Venus Ascendant will find their heart’s desire, with suites that transform from luxurious boudoirs to sunset-lit beaches to dark BDSM dungeons. So come to Venus Ascendant and find exactly what you’re looking for!”

It was meant to be a romantic getaway for Marie and the love of her life Jaisen; a chance for him to get to know her better after months of her denying him more than a few stolen kisses. Instead, Marie finds herself dumped and alone on Venus Ascendant with no credit for a transmat and the next starship home not due for another hour.

But the all-seeing AI isn’t going to leave anyone aboard the space station with their dreams unfulfilled. Marie's boyfriend might not have made it to the station, but there are others willing and able to take on the role - even if they aren’t entirely human.

EXCERPT

Marie jerked her gaze up to meet that of the man before her, then reassessed her first thought. This was no normal man. Although the impossibly deep, almost indigo blue of his eyes held her, she noted the silvery sheen of his skintight one-piece with the logo VASA at the shoulder that marked him as one of Venus Ascendant’s subsidiary avatars. Her distress at Jaisen’s message had no doubt sparked the AI into an immediate response—that kind of emotional hit on its empathic sensors wouldn’t have been missed, although it was probably equivalent to no more than a poke in the eye. For Marie, it was like someone carving out her heart with a blunt instrument.

“No intention of mine,” she snapped.

Not now. Not ever!

“Perhaps I can be of service?”

Marie stared at him…at it. She’d heard about the VA avatars but never been so close to one. She’d learned from the space station’s blurb that the main AI took the form of a young Indian woman called Ganesa, spoken of with as much reverence as the bronze-cast deity behind her. This particular avatar had been crafted into a ruggedly handsome, if stereotypically human, male. Thick blond hair left a shade too long framed his face perfectly; darker brows arched over eyes the most glorious shade of deep blue she’d ever seen. He was broad shouldered and athletic, and the thin, snug- fitting one-piece in gray outlined the well-defined musculature of his torso in a way no doubt intended to draw attention and tease the imagination of potential clients. A shapely hint of what lay beneath without full disclosure, like the metallic foil used to cover chocolate treats. Also a complete contrast to the man she’d hoped to see, and all too perfect to be real.

“I don’t need your service, thank you very much.” She jumped up and tried to shove past him, but the dense composition of an avatar meant she only jarred her arm and had to sidle past in an embarrassingly servile fashion. He made no attempt to stop her, and she headed blindly down the nearest access corridor.

Tears blurred the curious faces as she passed them. She wasn’t sure where she was going or why. A starship home perhaps, or to the quarters Jaisen had booked and that no doubt held her meager luggage as this moment…

Someone caught her elbow and steadied her as she swayed with indecision. “I really don’t think you want to go that way.”

AUTHOR BIO

A stay-at-home mum of three who spent twelve years working as an Analytical Chemist in a Metals and Minerals laboratory, Pippa Jay bases her stories on a lifetime addiction to science-fiction books and films. Somewhere along the line a touch of romance crept into her work and refused to leave. In between torturing her plethora of characters, she spends the odd free moments trying to learn guitar, indulging in freestyle street dance and drinking high-caffeine coffee. Although happily settled in historical Colchester in the UK with her husband of 20 years, she continues to roam the rest of the Universe in her head.

Pippa Jay is a dedicated member of the SFR Brigade, a community of science fiction romance authors and publishing professionals committed to writing and promoting the very best in the genre.

About the author

Edward Hoornaert is not only a writer, he’s a certifiable Harlequin Hero; he inspired N.Y. Times bestselling author Vicki Lewis Thompson to write her favorite Harlequin Desire, “Mr. Valentine”, which was dedicated to him. In the past, he wrote contemporary romances for Silhouette Books, but these days he writes science fiction adventures—usually with elements of romance. In addition to novelist, he has been a teacher, technical writer, salesman, waiter, janitor, and symphonic oboist.

After having 30 different addresses in his first 28 years, his rolling stone slowed in the mountains of British Columbia and stopped in Tucson, Arizona. His high school sweetheart has been his wife for more years than he has fingers and toes to count.

Here's an excerpt from Mirror Shattered:

The ship fell silent. Seth had managed to maneuver the ship to avoid the second blaster charge.

"I think I have it. Fly into that star," Maddie instructed Seth.
"You've got to be kidding me," David said, exasperated.
"The shields will hold," Maddie assured Seth.

Seth looked to Jackson who nodded in agreement with Maddie.

"I hope you know what you are doing," Seth muttered, setting in the coordinates.

Me, too. Maddie thought. But she knew she couldn't lose her nerve now.

"What's your plan?" Jackson asked.
"We can actually use our shields to deflect energy toward our attackers," Maddie responded.
"That sounds dangerous," John warily said.
"It will take everything we have in shields to do this. We'll only get one shot at this. If my math is wrong, it could destroy us," Maddie admitted.

The crew looked on as Seth punched in the coordinates to the nearest star. The attacking ship began to follow suit. Maddie pulled out her data tablet and connected it to the ship.

"Maddie, please be correct," Seth prayed.

Her entire body shook as she turned on her tablet. If she was off by even a fraction...

"Maddie..." John encouragingly said.
"A minute." She shook her head.
"We don't have a minute, Madison," Jackson sharply said.
"Got it!" she exclaimed, just as the ship entered the star.

The ship began to hum as the shields started pushing back against the star's energy. The enemy stopped its pursuit.

"It's waiting for us to come out," Chris said.
"On my mark, Seth," Maddie said, loading up her newly-written program into the ship's control panel.
"The temperature in the hull is rising," David alerted her.
"I'm aware. We're almost there," Maddie replied.
"I think we have it," Seth said.
"Fire!" Maddie shouted.

Cover Reveal: Juli Valenti

Today, I once again open up my blog to another author and introduce a new book coming out on July 15th. Welcome, Juli Valenti and her new book, Greatest Distraction!
.
.
.
.
Blurb:

My name is Ryen Macek. I’m twenty-eight years old, live in Atlanta, Georgia and live a fairly normal life.

Anyway, like most women, I’ve dated and it’s always turned out badly. Most recently that would be Aaron, who decided to trample on my heart in the form of a woman wearing a sheet. Not that I’m bitter, mind you, but, well, I sort of am.

I decided I needed a distraction. I needed to get away from this city, the men in this city, and just… live for awhile. Helllooooo, New York City. I’d stayed here with my best friend while we went to college, and, lucky for me, she kept our apartment.

In true Ryen fashion, what I’m looking for, I find… but is it more than even I could ask for?

Between the paparazzi, high society events, and mob connections, join me while I find the greatest of distractions.
....

Pretty cool, huh?
Greatest Distraction will be available on July 15th! Also, here is the GoodReads link:  https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/22603795-greatest-distraction

About the author:

Juli Valenti grew up in a small town in Arkansas, known for Wal-mart, which is no longer small but is still known for the grocery store. Lucky for her, she didn’t retain an accent, despite her overuse of ya’ll when talking.  She currently resides in sunny Florida with her husband and two young boys. If her world wasn’t crazy enough, she also works a full time day job, as well as owns her own editing company (Juli’s Elite Editing).
