Personal update

Since my 20s, I have found the best way for me to live is with transparency and honesty. Maybe this is too personal for my blog, but I felt it was best to write this up here to let all my family, friends, and yes, even my readers, know what's been going on with me at one stop so I don't have to keep telling the same story or forget someone.

Last month, I went down to Charleston to surprise my father for his birthday. It was a great trip, although as always too short. When I got home, I started feeling sick. I was nauseous and extremely tired. Next day almost as soon as I ate, I was nauseous again. Then came the stomach pains. It was awful. Felt like my monthly cramps turned up to 11. Sharp pain in my lower abdominal unlike any I have felt before. I wasn't able to get in to see my doctor for a week so I went to an walk in clinic. The doctor didn't seem too concerned. Told me it was probably just some gastrointestinal distress. Told me to eat lighter foods like fish and grilled chicken and make sure I'm drinking water. Well, with keto, that isn't too hard. Just meant for a few days I wouldn't eat a bunless burger. He prescribed some pain meds, which I didn't fill, and said if it continues to let him know.

I almost cancelled my appointment with my doctor but decided to keep it. I'm glad I did. I wasn't in pain anymore but figured it was best to get checked out. She ordered a CT scan of my lower abdominal which, again, I almost cancelled because I didn't feel like it was necessary.

The CT scan found out why I was having such nausea and pain. It showed a 7 cm tumor on my right ovary. I know that sentence seems scary. Believe me, I had to put my phone down when I saw the results from the My Chart app. But let me assure you, I'm fine. It's a benign tumor, will not become cancerous. It won't go away on its own so surgery is going to be the best option.

My surgery is scheduled for July 11th. I wanted to make sure I had enough time to get work ducks in the row. I'll be out of work for approximately a week, but after that, I should be all set.

I want to stress I'm fine. I will be dealing with the nausea and pain the few days leading to and during my period, but now I know what's the cause, I know what to expect.

Do not be stubborn when it comes to your health! Had I cancelled the doctor's appointments or not done the CT scan, this could have been much worse. Right now, it's a simple procedure but it could've been much different. I am not in danger. I am fine. I will continue to be fine. But this story could have been much different.

I have been handwriting a lot for the new Amethyst Chronicles book lately. Good news is this will have me with a lot of one-on-one time with my laptop. :-)

As always, feel free to comment or send me a message. I'll be around.
